Since 1974, World Environment Day has been celebrated every 5th day of June. It is one of the biggest annual events of the United Nations and is celebrated worldwide.
Its aim is to encourage more people to become more aware of environmental issues and to take action. This year’s theme is focused on biodiversity and it will be hosted by Colombia in partnership with Germany.
World Environment Day is the "people's day" for doing something to take care of the Earth. That "something" can be local, national, or global. It can be a solo action or involve a crowd. Everyone is free to choose.
2020 has been a great challenge for everyone and for our environment. With the spread of a pandemic, environmental crisis such as extreme floods and bushfires, the need to act is greater than ever before.
This year, we would like to highlight the Women4Climate initiative by C40 Cities, an organization that aims to empower and mentor young women who develop projects addressing climate change in their home city.
The network connects 90 of the world’s biggest cities in a collective effort to address climate action. It seeks to empower women to play a leading role in fighting climate change. C40 Cities represents more than 650 million citizens and one quarter of the global economy.
By adopting an inclusive approach to catalyzing climate action in cities, C40 aims to help accelerate progress towards fulfilling the Paris Agreement.
Its Women4Climate mentoring program will support and empower future female leaders from multiple sectors including business, government, academia, and civil society, as they develop local solutions to limit the impacts of climate change.
Since the launch of the Women4Climate initiative in 2017, there is a growing number of cities that have launched or will soon launch their own Women4Climate Mentorship Program to empower the next generation of climate leaders.
In 2020, a new C40 Women4Climate Mentorship Program has launched in Toronto on World Environment Day.

RE Royalties has built a portfolio of royalties in Canada, the United States and Europe. These projects play a significant role in combating climate change, which aligns with our company values, as it will displace over 300,000+ tonnes of carbon per year from entering the atmosphere.
World Environment Day is your opportunity to help improve renewable energy production by getting involved with RE Royalties to help us get projects off the ground faster.
Let us all appreciate and be kind to our environment.
